Our IFMGA Guides – Why the guide matters​

The IFMGA — International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations — is the highest international standard in mountain guiding. Certification is recognised in over 25 countries and requires years of rigorous training across ski mountaineering, rock climbing, ice climbing and alpine terrain.

Not everyone who takes people into the mountains holds this qualification. Our guides do. In some destinations, including parts of Northern Norway, there is no legal requirement to hold a guiding certification. Anyone can lead groups into the mountains. We think that matters — which is why every guide we work with meets the highest international standard.

Jarmo Metsäkoivu leads our guide team. He has spent over a decade guiding in the Alps and Northern Norway, with a background in steep skiing, ski touring, alpine climbing, mountain biking and trail running. Based in Chamonix, his knowledge of the terrain comes from years of moving through it in every season and condition.

Every guide we work with holds IFMGA certification or equivalent national qualification. They are selected not only for their technical expertise but for their ability to read people as well as mountains — to know when to push and when to pause.

For our clients, this means one thing above all: you can be fully present in the experience. The safety, the route decisions, the reading of conditions — all of that is handled. Your only task is to be there.
